Cunard has unveiled the shore experiences for its 2027 World Voyages, publishing the excursion programme that accompanies next year’s circumnavigations. On a world cruise the itinerary sells the trip but the shore programme determines what it actually feels like, and Cunard’s guests book these voyages a long way in advance — often more than a year out — so releasing the excursion detail is a meaningful commercial moment rather than a piece of housekeeping.
World voyages are a distinct category within cruising. They run for three or four months, attract a largely retired clientele with the time and means to disappear for a season, and generate revenue per passenger that no seven-night Caribbean sailing can approach. They are also logistically formidable: provisioning a ship across dozens of countries, managing visas and port clearances for thousands of passengers, and arranging shore operations in ports that may see one large ship a year.
The excursion programme is where lines differentiate themselves on a segment of the market that is not primarily price-driven. Overland tours that leave the ship in one port and rejoin it in another, private after-hours access to museums and monuments, and multi-day interior journeys are the sort of product that justifies a premium and, crucially, gives repeat guests a reason to book a second world voyage. Cunard also leans on its own heritage as an ocean-liner company, which the world voyage programme suits better than almost anything else it sells.
Anyone considering a 2027 world voyage should note how the booking rhythm works. Full circumnavigations sell out early, particularly in the higher grades, and the popular overland excursions have limited capacity that goes quickly once the programme opens. Cunard, like most lines, also sells segments of the full voyage for travelers who want three weeks rather than three months, and those sectors often represent the most accessible way into the experience.
