A Catalan City Britain Has Never Flown To Just Went on Sale

easyJet has put 18 new routes on sale from ten UK airports for summer 2027, and buried in the list is something rarer than a new route: a new destination. Girona, the walled Catalan city about 60 miles north of Barcelona, has not had a scheduled UK service in years, and easyJet is opening two. Liverpool to Girona starts on 28 March with two weekly flights, followed by London Gatwick to Girona from 3 June at three weekly. For anyone who has been flying into Barcelona and driving north to the Costa Brava, that detour is about to become unnecessary.

The rest of the programme spreads across Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Greece, Cyprus, Montenegro and Bulgaria: Ajaccio, Barcelona, Bastia, Bilbao, Burgas, Hamburg, Larnaca, Milan, Montpellier, Murcia, Majorca, Rhodes, Rome, Thessaloniki and Tivat. Spain takes six of the new routes. Scotland does unusually well, with six new services from Aberdeen and Edinburgh — a corrective to the long-standing complaint that low-cost expansion in Britain means expansion in the South East. easyJet says it will be the only carrier flying ten of the eighteen routes nonstop.

The commercial logic is visible in the fares. Published one-way prices start at £35.48 including taxes, and holiday packages — flights, a vetted hotel and 23kg of luggage — can be held with a £60 per person deposit. Putting summer 2027 on sale in September 2026 is a bet that British travellers will book eighteen months out to lock in a price, which is increasingly how European leisure travel works. The deposit structure is aimed squarely at people who want the flight secured before the pricing algorithms notice the route is filling.

For travellers the useful move is to treat launch fares as genuinely launch fares. New routes and thin-frequency services — a two-weekly Liverpool to Girona, for instance — tend to open cheap to build awareness and firm up as load factors prove out. Two weekly flights also means limited flexibility if something goes wrong, which is worth weighing against the saving. Corsica gets two of the new routes via Ajaccio and Bastia, Montenegro gets Tivat, and both are markets where nonstop UK capacity has been scarce enough that easyJet’s arrival genuinely changes the options.
