A No-Fly Cruise Line Keeps Selling More Flights to Barbados

Ambassador Cruise Line built its reputation on no-fly cruising from British ports, but its Caribbean programme keeps growing. The line has now opened sales for two more winter fly-cruise seasons, 2027/28 and 2028/29, which will be its third and fourth years operating from Bridgetown, Barbados. Each season includes ten sailings: eight 14-night Caribbean fly-cruises and two repositioning voyages between the UK and Barbados for guests who would rather sail than fly.

The logistics are packaged tightly. Guests fly to and from Grantley Adams International Airport on direct Virgin Atlantic charter flights from London Heathrow and Manchester every other Sunday, with transfers and bonded luggage included. The first season runs from November 10, 2027 to April 8, 2028, and the second from October 29, 2028 to March 28, 2029. Fares start from £1,999 per person for 2027/28 and £2,099 per person for 2028/29.

Itineraries mix familiar and less-visited islands. Highlights include an 18-night Atlantic crossing that calls at St Kitts, Dominica, St Lucia, Martinique and Curaçao, a Christmas sailing departing December 12, 2027, and a New Year’s Eve departure from Bridgetown in 2028 that continues to Curaçao, Aruba, Guadeloupe, St Lucia, Grenada, Tobago and Bonaire. The voyages use Renaissance, one of the line’s smaller ships, which means fewer queues and easier access to smaller ports than the mega-ships that dominate the region.

Chief executive Christian Verhounig said the fly-cruises complement rather than replace the line’s no-fly sailings, and that they reflect demand from guests who want to go further in winter without committing to a very long voyage. For British travellers over 50, Ambassador’s core market, the package offers a way to reach the Caribbean with most of the complexity handled. Booking this far ahead also tends to secure the best cabins, particularly on festive sailings, which typically sell out first.
