JetBlue’s Newest Colombian Route Skips the Usual Suspects

Palm trees and shoreline on Colombia's Caribbean coast

Most U.S. airlines chasing Colombian demand point their planes at Bogotá, Medellín or Cartagena. JetBlue has taken a slightly different turn. On October 1 it began daily nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale and Barranquilla, a Caribbean-coast city that rarely tops American itineraries but sits at the mouth of the Magdalena River and anchors a large regional economy.

The flights are flown with Airbus A320s, which carry JetBlue’s free Fly-Fi satellite Wi-Fi, so travelers can stay connected on the short hop from South Florida. Fares launched at $134 one way in the Main cabin and $234 one way in the EvenMore fare, which bundles extra legroom and priority perks, according to the airline’s published launch pricing.

Barranquilla is not a standalone bet. It joins a growing JetBlue Colombia network out of Fort Lauderdale that already includes Medellín and Cartagena, with Cali listed among the additions the carrier has planned for this month. Together they give the airline several Colombian entry points rather than depending on a single gateway city.

For travelers, the practical upside is choice and, possibly, price pressure. Barranquilla is famous for hosting one of Latin America’s biggest Carnival celebrations each year and works as a launching point for the nearby coast. A daily nonstop from Fort Lauderdale also makes it easier for Florida’s large Colombian community to visit family without connecting through Bogotá. As always, check current schedules and fares before booking, since launch pricing can change.
