Bike Ferries, Vineyard Pours & a Factory Full of Ice Cream — A 3-Day Vermont & Lake Champlain Islands Road Trip

⚑ Report

Burlington’s waterfront, a working dairy-farm-turned-landmark, a bike ferry that crosses open water, a lake-view vineyard on an island, and the ice cream factory that put this state on the map — all inside a loop short enough for a long weekend, with one rental car and no ferry reservations beyond the free ones.

DURATION

3 Days

BEST TIME TO GO

Late Sept – Mid-Oct
Peak fall foliage usually hits northern Vermont in the last week of September into the first two weeks of October, and Smugglers’ Notch Scenic Highway (Rte 108) is still open — it closes for the season once snow sets in, typically late October through spring.
