American Airlines Is Quietly Cutting Five Routes to Fund a Comeback

American Airlines has announced it will end five routes in early 2027, calling the moves targeted actions to strengthen the airline and saying it will moderate planned growth next summer. Phoenix to Provo, Miami to Tulum and Miami to Montreal all end in January, Chicago O’Hare to Lincoln, Nebraska ends in April, and Dallas/Fort Worth to Albany will not resume next summer.

The cuts come alongside some additions. JFK to Seattle returns on April 6, 2027 with two daily flights, the first time American has flown it since 2019. Bozeman service moves from LaGuardia to JFK and grows from weekly to four times weekly from June 18, 2027.

JFK also gets longer seasons on two Canadian routes: Calgary with three weekly flights from June 17, 2027, and Quebec City from the same date.

If you hold tickets on any of the ending routes, expect to be rebooked, so check your reservation. The broader signal is that American is pruning thin markets, particularly small cities and secondary Mexico and Canada links, while concentrating on routes it believes customers value most.
