The Gulf Just Got a Nonstop Line to the Canadian Rockies

Etihad Airways will begin flying nonstop between Abu Dhabi and Calgary on November 3, 2026. The airline describes the service as the first-ever direct link between the Middle East and the Alberta city, and tickets are already on sale through its website.

The route will operate four days a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, using the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Etihad says the aircraft carries its latest Business and Economy cabins, so travellers on this route get the airline’s newest widebody product rather than an older layout.

Flight EY29 leaves Abu Dhabi at 08:45 and lands in Calgary at 12:20 local time, handy for a same-day afternoon in the city. The return, EY30, departs Calgary at 18:05 and reaches Abu Dhabi at 19:00, which means arriving the following evening once the long flight and the time difference are counted.

For Western Canada, the significance is the absence of a stop. Until now, travel between the Gulf and Calgary has meant connecting somewhere en route. The new schedule also gives Calgary a gateway into Etihad’s wider network out of Abu Dhabi, which is often how routes like this earn their keep.
