American Airlines plans to build a new Admirals Club at Charlotte Douglas International Airport that will measure 40,000 square feet, which would make it the largest lounge in the airline’s system. A Flagship Lounge is also planned for Charlotte, though its size has not been stated.
Construction on the Admirals Club is set to begin before the end of 2026. No opening date has been announced for either lounge, and the analyst who reported the news guesses the club could open in 2028 or later. No construction timeline has been given for the Flagship Lounge. An earlier plan placed the new lounges on a mezzanine near the Concourse D and E connector, but it is unclear whether that location still holds.
The design takes cues from Charlotte’s tree canopy and textile heritage. Planned features include spa-style shower suites, bars and serveries, and distinct zones tailored to different traveler needs, such as working or relaxing. The lounges will follow the new design concept the airline is using in Philadelphia.
Charlotte is one of American’s largest connecting hubs, and crowded clubs have been a common complaint there, so extra capacity should matter to the many passengers who pass through. Until construction progresses, travelers should treat any specific opening year as a guess rather than a commitment.
