A Flight From Vietnam to Prague Now Stops in Kazakhstan, by Design

Prague old town rooftops and spires

VietJet launched its Hanoi to Prague service on October 10, about three months later than originally planned. The flights run twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with an Airbus A330 and stop in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It marks VietJet’s entry into the European Union and the first scheduled nonstop-style links between Vietnam and the Czech Republic.

The stop is a commercial choice rather than a hiccup. VietJet is using fifth-freedom rights on the Almaty to Prague sector, meaning it can sell seats between those two cities on a flight that began elsewhere. The service also creates the first scheduled links between Almaty and Prague.

The market is sizable. Sabre data cited by Aviation Week shows about 89,300 two-way passengers between Vietnam and the Czech Republic in 2025, with Hanoi to Prague making up around 72 percent of that. Many have previously connected through other hubs, so a direct option could change how those trips are priced.

Local coverage had earlier pointed to a one-way all-in fare starting from about 405 dollars when the route was first announced, though current fares may differ. As with any new long-haul service, schedule changes are possible, so travelers should confirm days and aircraft before booking.
