KLM plans to cancel some flights between October 26, 2026 and early March 2027, a stretch that includes Christmas, New Year and the February school break. IamExpat reported the news on October 11, and the airline had not yet confirmed how many flights or which destinations would be affected.
The cause is aircraft availability. KLM says several planes are unavailable because of maintenance and repair delays, with some repairs taking longer than planned and replacement parts arriving late. The report stresses that these cancellations are separate from earlier ones tied to fuel prices.
KLM says it is prioritizing cancellations that cause the least disruption, and passengers are usually rebooked automatically. Travelers can check their options in the My Trip tool on KLM’s website. Under EU rules, passengers whose flights are cancelled can generally choose between a refund and alternative transport, and extra compensation may apply depending on how much notice they get and the circumstances.
The flights affected are those to, from or via the Netherlands, so connections through Schiphol are the ones to watch. With no route list yet, anyone holding a holiday booking should check their reservation now and look at rebooking options early, because the most popular alternative flights tend to fill quickly in peak weeks.
