China Airlines, Taiwan’s flag carrier, has raised several ancillary charges for tickets issued on or after October 16, 2026. The airline announced the change on October 6. It covers excess checked baggage, prepaid excess baggage and pet transportation, so passengers who booked before the cutoff should confirm with the airline how their ticket will be treated.

The biggest jump is for animals. Based on reporting from Taiwan News, a pet under 32 kilograms on an Asian route rises from NT$9,000 to NT$13,000 each way, an increase of about 44 percent. Pet transport between Taiwan and Europe or North America is listed at NT$19,000 each way, although no earlier figure was available for comparison.

Excess baggage also costs more. On many East Asian routes, plus Palau and Guam, the charge rises by about NT$630, or roughly 14 percent, from NT$4,470 to around NT$5,100. For North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and India the increase is reported at about NT$1,270, or roughly 20 percent. Prepaid excess baggage to East Asia, Palau and Guam is reported at about NT$4,850, a rise of roughly 20 to 30 percent.

The prepaid discount has also shrunk: the airline’s baggage page now shows 5 percent, down from the 10 percent announced in 2023. These figures come from press reports rather than the airline’s full fee schedule, which the coverage did not verify, so check exact amounts with China Airlines. For anyone moving a pet or packing heavy for the holidays, it is worth comparing the new rates with other carriers before you book.
