London City Airport Never Had a Lounge. That Ends in 2027

London City Airport, the small runway beside the Docklands known for fast processing, is finally getting a lounge. Plane News Weekly reports that the first passenger lounge will be named 09:LDN Suite, with opening planned for early 2027 and timed to the airport’s fortieth year. It will be independent of any airline, with access sold online or at the door, and an annual membership to follow later. For a city airport that often serves business travelers, it is a long-overdue addition.

The reason no lounge existed is part of the airport’s identity. One Mile at a Time noted in June that London City’s reputation for quick processing and late arrivals led many to assume passengers did not need a lounge. Many travelers can be through security and at the gate within minutes, which is a selling point for a business airport, but it also meant that anyone with a delay or a long wait had few places to settle in comfort.

The lounge will be run by Aspire, part of Swissport’s Aspire Pre-Flight Hospitality brand. The design described so far includes a hotel-style lobby in the departures area, runway views, a cocktail bar, a barista station and a workspace with private booths. The airport’s statement says all passengers can buy access, though it does not mention airline class of service, elite status or Priority Pass, and One Mile at a Time notes the access rules might not be final.

For travelers, the question will be price and value. A pay-per-visit model puts the lounge in competition with the airport’s existing cafes and bars, and its appeal will depend on how it is priced. If you routinely fly from London City to destinations such as Edinburgh, Zurich or New York, it is worth watching for the opening date and the announced rates before you plan your next trip.
