Destination guide
South America: Andes to Patagonia
Two real budget routes covering Peru and Bolivia’s Andean highlights and southern Patagonia’s granite peaks and glaciers.
Choose your route
Ancient ruins and salt flats in the Andes, or granite towers and glaciers at the continent’s southern tip. Both routes are built for real backpacker budgets.
When to go
Peru and Bolivia’s dry season runs May to October, with clear Andean skies and safer overland travel; December through March brings rain and landslide risk. Patagonia’s shoulder seasons, October to early December and March to April, offer the best mix of stable weather, thinner crowds, and lower prices than the December-February peak.
