Frankfurt Is Getting Three British Cities Nobody Else Flies

Discover Airlines, the leisure carrier inside the Lufthansa Group, will enter the British market for the first time in summer 2027 with service to Glasgow, Bristol and Inverness. Frankfurt to Glasgow starts on 29 March with up to six weekly flights, Frankfurt to Bristol follows on 17 May with two a week, and Frankfurt to Inverness begins on 19 June with a single weekly rotation. A fourth route, Munich to Glasgow, launches on 16 May with up to twice-weekly service. All four will be flown by Airbus A320s and all four are summer-seasonal.

The detail that matters for travelers is the competitive position. Discover will be the only carrier operating nonstop between Frankfurt and each of Glasgow, Bristol and Inverness. Frankfurt is one of Europe’s largest connecting hubs, so for passengers in western England and Scotland these routes are less about the German destination itself and more about a one-stop path onto the Lufthansa Group’s long-haul network without first backtracking through London or Amsterdam. Inverness in particular has had very thin direct European service outside the UK’s own carriers.

The traffic is expected to run both ways. Discover is explicitly targeting German demand for outdoor and cultural travel in Scotland and the West Country: hiking, whisky, coastline and city breaks that have historically routed through Edinburgh or Manchester. Up to 11 weekly flights to Britain is modest against the group’s overall network, but it is a meaningful addition for three airports that have spent recent years rebuilding continental connectivity after a long stretch of post-pandemic capacity cuts.

The seasonal-only structure is the caveat. These are summer schedules, running roughly late March to autumn, so they will not help anyone planning a winter trip and they are not a year-round replacement for a hub connection. Discover has also confirmed it will retain its Frankfurt–Shannon route into 2027, keeping its small Ireland presence alongside the new British flying. Tickets are expected to go on sale through the usual Lufthansa Group channels well ahead of the March start date.
