A regional transport strike is running all day Wednesday across the Netherlands, affecting operators including Arriva, EBS, Qbuzz, Transdev and Keolis. Many of the companies had not confirmed how many services they would cancel, so travellers using regional buses should expect gaps and last-minute changes.
The bigger news for visitors is that this is not a one-day event. The unions FNV and CNV plan a one-day strike each week until Christmas, with the dates announced at short notice. That makes it harder than usual to plan a trip around a single known disruption, particularly for anyone relying on regional connections to smaller towns.
The core city networks are not affected this time. City buses, trams and metros run by GVB, HTM and RET in Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam are operating, as are NS trains. Travellers heading between major cities can generally rely on the national rail network even on strike days.
The practical advice is to favour NS intercity services where possible and to check the 9292 journey planner on the morning of travel. If your itinerary depends on a regional bus, it is worth identifying a rail alternative or allowing extra time, and keeping an eye on union announcements for the next strike date.
