Qantas will end its domestic codeshare and frequent-flyer partnership with Air New Zealand on April 7, 2027, according to a notice dated October 15 from Air New Zealand. The agreement began in 2018, so the arrangement will have lasted a little under nine years.
What that means for passengers is not spelled out in the notice we reviewed. Codeshares typically let one airline sell seats on the other’s flights, and frequent-flyer partnerships let members earn and spend points across both carriers, so travelers who rely on either feature should watch for guidance from both airlines.
The end date gives members several months of notice. If you hold points or status in either program and have trips booked past April 7, check which flights are currently sold under the other airline’s code and whether tickets will be honored as issued. Airlines normally say how existing bookings will be treated, but that detail has not yet been published in the sources we saw.
The announcement lands in a busy week for Qantas, which has also been in the news over its joint business with American Airlines. We will update this story as more detail emerges on how the split will affect fares, lounge access and point earning.
