Visa applicants who want to avoid long waits for a U.S. interview have a paid shortcut this year. A pilot programme lets applicants pay an extra $750 on top of the standard $185 visa fee and book an interview within 10 days of payment at select U.S. embassies and consulates.
The pilot began on July 1 and runs through December 31, 2026, so the window to use it is closing. Which posts take part is limited; the programme applies only to certain embassies and consulates, and prospective applicants need to confirm availability for their location before paying anything. Reporting on the scheme does not list every participating post.
The speed comes at a price that more than quadruples the base cost. For a family of four, the premium alone would be $3,000, before the standard fees are counted. For business travelers or students racing a start date, though, the ability to secure an appointment within days may be worth it.
The measure is one of several visa and entry changes taking effect around the world this year, from fees to digital border systems. Travelers should rely on the official embassy website for current rules, as fees, eligibility and participating locations can change. The pilot is time limited, and nothing in the reporting suggests how it will be treated after December 31.
