IHG Hotels & Resorts announced October 12 that it has opened the InterContinental Taipei, a 347-room hotel in the heart of the Taipei Dome complex in Xinyi District. The company is positioning it as a flagship for the brand in Taiwan, and the announcement noted that the opening coincides with InterContinental’s 80th anniversary. The location puts guests close to the city’s business, cultural, dining and entertainment areas.
Rooms are on the roomy side. Classic Rooms start at about 38 square metres, and some frame views of Taipei 101. Suites start at about 76 square metres and include a full kitchen, dining area and in-suite laundry, a combination aimed at longer stays as well as short trips. Travel blog reports put starting rates at about 360 dollars or 66,000 IHG One Rewards points per night.
Food is a major part of the pitch. The hotel has seven dining concepts, including restaurants led by chef Akira Back. It also offers versatile event spaces, an indoor pool, a fitness centre and a Club InterContinental lounge for eligible guests. The mix of dining and event space reflects how Asian city hotels increasingly compete for local diners and corporate events, not just overnight guests.
For travelers, the opening adds another high-end option in a market where IHG has been expanding its luxury portfolio across Greater China. A separate IHG announcement the same week expanded the Vignette Collection across several Chinese cities. As with any new property, early reviews and rates may shift as the hotel settles in, so anyone planning a Taipei stay should compare points and cash prices across the major chains before booking.
