The Unione Sindacale di Base, an Italian union, has called a nationwide general strike for October 30, 2026, across public and private sectors including transport. Italy’s strike regulator, the Commissione di Garanzia, objected on October 13, pointing to rules that bar strikes from October 30 to November 5 around All Saints’ Day and the commemoration of the dead. The union reaffirmed on October 15 that it would go ahead.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport register, aviation is listed for the whole day on October 30. Railways are scheduled from 9 p.m. on October 29 to 8:59 p.m. on October 30, taxis for the full day, and highways from 10 p.m. on October 29. Ports face a separate 24-hour nationwide stoppage, and staff at Florence and Pisa airports have a 24-hour action planned.
What will really happen is uncertain. Reports conflict on whether local public transport and rail staff will take part, and the register itself does not establish that every planned stoppage will proceed. These are announced actions rather than confirmed cancellations, and the regulator’s objection could still matter.
Travelers heading to Italy around the holiday should check flight status with their airline and ENAC, and rail status with Trenitalia, Italo or the regional operator. Under EU Regulation 261/2004, passengers on canceled flights generally have rights to reimbursement or rerouting and assistance. Flexible bookings and a backup plan for that Friday are sensible, especially for tight connections.
