MSC Just Closed the Door on Cruisers Shopping Around for Status

MSC Cruises has quietly stopped accepting new Status Match applications in Spain, France and Italy. The change took effect Thursday, October 15, 2026, and was reported by Cruise Hive on October 18. Status Match is the program that lets a cruiser who has earned loyalty tiers elsewhere ask MSC to give them a comparable level in its Voyagers Club, so the closure removes a popular shortcut for travelers in those three markets.

Anyone who already submitted an application before the cutoff will still have it processed, and tiers that have already been matched remain valid. MSC’s own FAQ states that the program’s termination only affects the ability to submit new applications. The Voyagers Club tiers, perks and point-earning rules are not changing, so existing members should see no difference in what they receive aboard.

The picture is less clear elsewhere. As of the report, the program was still live on MSC’s sites for the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and Austria. Cruise Hive notes that other country sites could be updated later, possibly in a gradual rollout, which means the window to use the offer in those markets may not stay open indefinitely.

For cruisers sitting on elite status with another line, the practical takeaway is to check which MSC site you book through before assuming a match is available. If you are in one of the affected countries and were planning to switch, the route is now closed for new requests. Travelers elsewhere who want a match may want to apply sooner rather than later, since MSC has not said how long the other markets will keep it.
