Silversea Is Building a Hotel at the Edge of Antarctica

Icebergs and glacier in Antarctic waters

Silversea has launched a 40-voyage Antarctica season running through March 2027. Twenty-nine of those voyages are Fly Cruise itineraries, which let guests skip the notorious Drake Passage crossing on the way in or out by traveling part of the route by air.

The program leans on a new property, The Cormorant at 55 South, in Puerto Williams, Chile, one of the southernmost towns in the world. The hotel officially opens on November 5, and early guests will get a preview stay ahead of that date before heading out to the ships.

Fly-cruise structures are becoming a bigger part of polar travel because they trade time at sea for time ashore and reduce the exposure to rough water. Having a hotel at the departure point also gives travelers a place to rest and recover from long-haul flights before boarding.

The details come from the line’s own announcement as summarized by Travel PR News, so pricing and specific voyage dates should be confirmed directly with Silversea. Anyone considering a trip should also check airline connections to Chile, since the fly element depends on flights from the region.
