Trainline, the European train and coach booking app, has launched in Ireland, announced on October 21. The company describes it as its first new domestic market in ten years. For visitors and locals alike, the practical change is that Irish Rail journeys and several coach services can now be compared and bought in one place instead of across separate operator sites.
The coach side of the launch is broader than many travelers might expect. Alongside Irish Rail, the app lists Bus Éireann Expressway, Citylink, JJ Kavanagh, Wexford Bus, Dublin Express and Aircoach. Trainline says it will not charge a booking fee, which matters because fee-free comparison is usually the first thing travelers check when a new booking platform arrives.
Trainline cited a survey it commissioned to explain the timing. Of the people polled, 89 percent said ease of booking matters when planning travel, 83 percent value comparing options, and 82 percent want journey information in one place. The company’s Ireland country manager, Hannah Randall, said the app brings the country’s rail and coach journeys together in one app for the first time.
The market it is entering is growing. The National Transport Authority reported 363.5 million passenger journeys across the Transport for Ireland network in 2025, up 6 percent on the year, with Irish Rail alone carrying more than 55 million passengers. Trainline says it works with more than 270 rail and coach partners and sells in more than 40 countries, so Ireland slots into an existing multi-country app.
