From November 10, Ryanair will close airport check-in and bag drop 60 minutes before departure. The current cut-off is 40 minutes. The change affects passengers who check in at the airport or hand over luggage at a desk, and it applies to departures from the new date onward, so flights booked months ago are covered too.
Online check-in is not affected. Travelers who check in through the app or website and carry only cabin baggage can still plan around their usual boarding time. The tightened deadline is aimed squarely at people who arrive late with a hold bag, a group that has long accounted for many missed flights on low-cost carriers, where the rules on cut-off times are applied strictly.
An extra 20 minutes sounds small, but it changes how the morning of a flight works. Airport transfers, security queues and parking shuttles all eat into the margin, and a train that once got you to the terminal comfortably can now leave too little room. Families with several bags and travelers using regional airports with infrequent connections are likely to feel the shift first.
The simplest defense is to reset your own rule of thumb. Aim to reach the bag drop well before the new 60-minute mark rather than just ahead of it, and consider paying for a cabin bag allowance if you can pack light. Check your booking confirmation and the airline’s travel information before departure in case local arrangements differ at a particular airport.
