Marriott Is Trimming Its Corporate Ranks, but Not the Hotels

A quiet hotel corridor

Marriott International confirmed on Wednesday, October 28, that it is cutting corporate jobs worldwide as part of a global restructuring. The company did not say how many people are affected.

In a statement, Marriott said reductions and role changes would fall in “some corporate disciplines” and that hotel staff are not affected. It framed the move as part of its regular budget and planning process and said new positions are being posted, with many affected employees expected to apply for and win them.

Employees posting on LinkedIn and on a Reddit forum for Marriott staff named regional human resources, an IT delivery desk, the consumer affairs office that handles escalated guest complaints, and the quality-assurance inspectors who audit brand standards. Some reported November departure dates.

Maryland’s layoff-notice log, current through October 23, showed no new Marriott filing on the day of the announcement, and the company had 88 postings for its Bethesda headquarters or remote work, many under its contingent “Flex” program. Marriott reports third-quarter results on Monday, November 2.
