Etihad Airways has launched the only nonstop service between Abu Dhabi and Luxembourg, making it the first Middle Eastern airline to serve the Grand Duchy. Aviation Week reports the route began on October 21 with four flights a week, although earlier announcements had pointed to an October 29 start and three weekly rotations, so travelers should confirm the current schedule with the airline.
The flights use an Airbus A321LR configured with two first suites, 14 business seats and 144 economy seats. Etihad says demand has been strong since bookings opened in January, and chief executive Antonoaldo Neves has promised the full three-cabin experience from the first departure. Etihad pitches the route to travelers from Luxembourg, the Benelux countries, France and Germany, with onward connections through Abu Dhabi to Asia.
The long-range narrowbody is the enabling piece. The A321LR lets carriers serve thinner long-haul markets that would not fill a widebody, and Luxembourg, which waited decades for a regular intercontinental link, is the kind of city that fits the model. Airport officials had welcomed the route as a strengthening of EU-UAE economic and cultural ties.
There is an irony for the home team. Luxair had planned its own Abu Dhabi and Dubai flights for October 2026, but in August it postponed Dubai to February 6, 2027 and deferred Abu Dhabi to the end of 2027, citing tensions in the Middle East. Etihad, in other words, is filling a gap that Luxembourg’s flag carrier chose to leave open for now.
