Hilton Found a Nordic Partner Who Already Knows Its Playbook

Hilton has signed a multi-year agreement with Stockholm-based Scandic Hotels Group to open new hotels across four Nordic countries: Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The properties will operate under Hilton’s range of brands, giving the American chain a much larger footprint in a region where it has been thin on the ground.

The first development announced is a Hilton property beside Copenhagen Airport, due to open in 2029. It will have 284 rooms and be run by Scandic under a franchise agreement with Hilton, a model the two companies already know from Helsinki, where Scandic has operated Hilton hotels for years.

Scandic’s chief executive, Jens Mathiesen, said the Helsinki experience showed that a global brand paired with Scandic’s operating platform works. Hilton chief executive Christopher Nassetta called the deal a significant milestone and said it creates a clear pathway to expand across the four countries.

For travelers, the practical change is likely to be more places to use Hilton Honors points in Northern Europe, and the companies said the agreement will also bring new benefits for members of both loyalty programs. Nordic hotels are often expensive and in short supply at peak times, so added supply could matter.
