Best Western Rewards is about to stop existing as its own program. On January 5, 2027, it merges with WorldHotels Rewards into a single program under the WorldHotels name, creating a loyalty base of about 70 million members. The announcement, made October 27, is part of a wider restructuring that places more than 4,000 hotels and 18 brands in over 100 countries under the WorldHotels masterbrand, a striking move for a company best known for decades under the Best Western banner.
What members actually keep is the central question. The company says the new program will have three streamlined tiers and promises status matching, member rates and points that never expire, with existing points retaining their value. But The Points Guy notes that the current structure runs from Blue and Red through Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Diamond Select, and that it is not yet known how those map to three tiers, how balances will convert or how award prices will be set.
The hotels themselves will not look different. The company says individual property identities, signage and well-known flags remain unchanged, so a Best Western or SureStay will keep its name. Upscale and luxury properties are grouped into a WorldHotels Collection with six categories: Luxury, Elite, Distinctive, Crafted, Backdrop and Residences. A new website and redesigned app are also planned, so booking habits may need to change even if the buildings do not.
If you hold Best Western points or status, the safest move is to wait for details rather than rush to spend or chase tiers. More information is due on November 16, 2026, well ahead of the January switch. Loyalty mergers often reshuffle benefits in ways that favor some members and penalize others, so reviewing your balance and elite level before that date will help you judge the changes as soon as they are published.
