Marriott’s Design-Forward EDITION Brand Finally Reaches Africa

Cape Town and Table Mountain

Cape Town is getting a new address for design-minded travelers. Marriott announced on October 27 that its EDITION brand is making its African debut with a hotel at Quay 7 in the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, a busy harbor district known for shopping, dining and views of Table Mountain.

The property will have 142 rooms, a modest size by big-chain standards that fits the EDITION idea of a boutique-style stay under a major company’s umbrella. Design duties belong to the studio Neri&Hu, and the concept emphasizes contemporary art and local craftsmanship.

The news arrives as global hotel groups compete to plant flags in destinations that combine leisure demand with strong international access. South Africa’s coastal city is one of the continent’s most visited, and a new luxury entrant adds to a hotel scene that already includes several established five-star names.

The announcement did not come with an opening date in the material reviewed here, so travelers should treat it as a plan rather than a bookable property for now. Anyone building a Cape Town trip for the coming season should look at hotels that are already open.
