Royal Caribbean’s newest and largest ship is about to start carrying American passengers. Legend of the Seas, the third vessel in the line’s Icon Class, begins sailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on November 8, with a short introduction before the longer Caribbean itineraries take over.
That first departure is a three-night Perfect Day Getaway, leaving at 8 p.m. The ship calls at Perfect Day at CocoCay on November 9, spends November 10 at sea and returns to Fort Lauderdale on November 11. It is a compact way to sample a vessel that features seven pools, a Category 6 waterpark, eight onboard neighborhoods and 28 dining options.
Travelers wanting something longer can look to the November 14 departure, an eight-night Southern Caribbean sailing. It visits Willemstad in Curaçao, Oranjestad in Aruba and CocoCay, mixing two ABC-island ports with the line’s private destination in The Bahamas.
Fort Lauderdale has long been one of the busiest cruise ports in the world, and a ship of this size adds capacity during the winter season, when demand is at its strongest. Anyone considering a booking should compare cabin categories carefully, since ships of this scale can feel very different depending on which neighborhood a stateroom sits in.
