Ryanair has added nine international routes to its summer 2027 schedule, according to aviation analyst Sean M, and one of them is a surprise. The airline will start flying from Kassel-Calden Airport in Germany, a new airport for its network, with twice-weekly service to Palma de Mallorca beginning March 29 and to Lamezia Terme in Italy beginning March 31.
The timing is notable because Ryanair has been shrinking elsewhere in Germany, which it blames on aviation taxes and airport charges. This winter it cut 700,000 German seats and closed its Berlin Brandenburg base, and it will leave Bremen in April. Kassel-Calden has struggled to attract airlines and has no scheduled passenger flights this winter, so Ryanair’s arrival is a win for the airport.
Other new links, all twice weekly, include Shannon and Aarhus to Milan Bergamo from March 28, Klagenfurt to Brindisi and Porto, Alicante to Lübeck, Málaga to Saarbrücken, and Girona to Bratislava from June 1. Bergamo is Ryanair’s largest Italian base by presence, with around 5.87 million seats scheduled this winter, up 5.5% on last year.
The airline has yet to finalize its summer 2027 schedule but plans more than 2,500 routes to 230 destinations. It is also adding four Moroccan routes, three of them to Tangier, and opening a two-aircraft base in Rimini with five new routes. The pattern is consistent: more flying where charges are low, less where Ryanair says they are high.
