British Airways Just Stitched Together 13 Mexican Cities Without Adding a Plane

British Airways and Mexican low-cost carrier Viva unveiled a codeshare agreement on November 3 that connects BA’s transatlantic flights with Viva’s domestic network. Tickets go on sale on the British Airways website for travel from March 28, 2027, and a single booking covers both legs, with the Viva segments carrying a BA flight code.

Nothing new is flying. The deal creates connecting itineraries from existing flights to 13 Mexican destinations through Mexico City or Cancun. From Mexico City the cities include Guadalajara, Monterrey, Oaxaca, Merida, Puerto Vallarta, San Jose del Cabo, Veracruz, Chihuahua, Hermosillo and Tijuana. Through Cancun, the list adds Leon and Queretaro. Some cities can be reached through either gateway.

British Airways Club members will earn Avios and tier points on the journeys, and Viva’s passengers can connect through Mexico to London and onward to more than 200 BA destinations. BA says it has served Mexico for more than 60 years, while Viva operates 110 Airbus A320-family aircraft to more than 60 destinations across Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Costa Rica and Cuba.

The announcement leaves open some details travelers will care about, including baggage handling and minimum connection times. Those will matter on separate-airline connections, especially on a low-cost carrier with its own bag rules. Anyone eyeing a trip to Oaxaca or Merida from the U.K. may want to wait for those rules when the schedules appear.
