Flying Blue Introduces Three-Tier Award Pricing, Stripping Perks From Its Cheapest Seats

Air France-KLM’s Flying Blue program will overhaul its award chart on September 8, 2026, splitting redemptions into three fare bundles: Light, Standard and Flex. The change applies only to flights operated by Air France and KLM; awards booked on partner airlines keep today’s pricing structure.

Headline mileage prices for Light awards will stay close to current levels, but the tickets will drop benefits members have come to expect, including free cancellations, checked bags on some fares and complimentary seat selection. Business Class Light awards will not include lounge access and will carry only one checked bag.

Members will need to pay more miles under the Standard or Flex tiers to retain those perks, effectively raising the cost of redemptions that used to come bundled together. Flying Blue’s Platinum and Ultimate elite members are largely shielded from the changes, and La Première awards are excluded entirely.

Frequent flyer analysts describe the move as a “hidden” devaluation because sticker prices in miles look unchanged while the value delivered per redemption falls. Travelers with saved-up Flying Blue miles are being encouraged to book any planned Air France or KLM award travel before the September 8 cutover.
