A Small Alabama Airport Just Got a Second Door to the World

A small regional airport terminal and apron

Northwest Alabama Regional Airport in Muscle Shoals is about to gain a second nonstop destination. Starting November 12, Contour Airlines will fly the Alabama airport to Dallas/Fort Worth, a route the small carrier has not operated from the airport before. Until now, Contour served Muscle Shoals only from Charlotte, so the new link marks the first time travelers there can reach a second major hub without a connection through North Carolina.

The schedule is five flights a week. Outbound departures from Muscle Shoals run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, while the return flights from Dallas operate Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. That pattern leaves a couple of gaps in the week, which matters for anyone planning a weekend trip or a same-week turnaround, so it is worth checking the exact days before booking.

The new flying is not entirely additional capacity. Contour says it is reallocating five weekly flights from the existing Muscle Shoals–Charlotte service to fund the Dallas/Fort Worth route. The airline describes the change as a reallocation, and the Charlotte route itself is not going away.

Charlotte service continues daily, so the airport ends up with both routes rather than trading one for the other. For a community of this size, a second hub connection widens onward options across the country and gives local travelers a backup if one route is disrupted. Whether Contour can later add frequencies to Dallas will likely depend on how demand develops once the flights begin.
