Brazil Gets an Extra Cruise Ship Even as Passengers Dropped 28%

Brazilian coastline

Brazil’s 2026–2027 coastal cruise season will have eight ships on regular domestic itineraries, one more than last season. MSC Cruises supplies five of them: MSC Virtuosa, making its Brazil debut, MSC Divina, in its first regular Brazilian season, plus MSC Musica, MSC Splendida and MSC Seaview. Costa Cruises adds Costa Diadema and Costa Serena.

The newcomer is Corazul, a new operator whose Buenavista can carry up to 2,140 guests. It begins revenue sailings from Santos on October 23, two weeks earlier than planned, and will sail from Santos and Rio de Janeiro to Búzios, Ilhabela, Balneário Camboriú and Salvador, with some longer cruises overnighting in Salvador. Christmas, New Year and Carnival departures are offered.

MSC Virtuosa runs seven-night cruises from Santos via Búzios, Salvador and Maceió, while Divina focuses on shorter trips. Seaview and Splendida pair Brazilian ports with Argentina and Uruguay, including Buenos Aires and Punta del Este. Beyond the coastal fleet, 28 vessels from 22 companies will make more than 200 calls at 32 ports on international voyages, including Amazon-region stops.

The expansion lands against a weaker backdrop. Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports counted 602,864 passengers on regular coastal cruises last season, about 28% fewer than the one before. CLIA Brasil president Marco Ferraz tied the added capacity partly to global deployment shifts and geopolitical conditions, and called for better port infrastructure, lower operating costs and more regulatory certainty.
