Hyatt Planted a Flag in Hokkaido’s Biggest City

Sapporo city view

Hyatt Centric Sapporo opened on October 3, 2026, giving the Hyatt Centric brand its first hotel in Hokkaido. The property has 216 rooms, including nine suites, in the island’s capital and largest city.

Hyatt Centric positions itself as a city-center base for travelers who want to be close to local food, shopping and neighborhoods rather than tucked away at a resort. Sapporo suits that pitch: it is the gateway to Hokkaido, and visitors often use it as a starting point for trips across the island.

The opening is one of several reported this month. Other listings in the same roundup include Four Seasons Resort Tangier in Morocco, which is planned with 99 rooms and suites and 27 standalone villas, and Andaz Turks and Caicos, targeting April 2027 with 59 rooms and 73 branded residences. Those are anticipated rather than open.

Rates, restaurant details and amenities were not included in the opening report, so travelers should check Hyatt’s booking pages before planning around the new hotel. For World of Hyatt members, any new property in a high-demand Japanese city adds another option, but this one’s pricing remains to be seen.
