Air Canada Just Claimed the Only Nonstop From North America to Tenerife

A coastline on the island of Tenerife

Air Canada is adding Tenerife to its winter map, and says it will be the only nonstop service to the Canary Islands from North America. Flights use the Airbus A321XLR, configured with 182 seats: 14 lie-flat Signature Class seats and 168 in economy.

From Toronto, service starts October 25 with two flights a week, departing Thursdays and Sundays at 8:35 p.m. and landing at Tenerife South at 9:00 a.m. the next day. Montréal follows on October 31 with a weekly Saturday departure at 9:00 p.m. Return flights from Tenerife leave at 10:55 a.m. The Toronto season runs to April 29, 2027, and the Montréal season to April 24.

The Canaries are not the only addition. Air Canada’s winter 2026-27 schedule also introduces Montréal to Santo Domingo, with four weekly flights from December 10, along with Roatán from Montréal and Toronto in December, Mérida from Toronto in late November, and Mazatlán from Vancouver in mid-December.

Roatán, Mérida and Mazatlán are subject to government approvals, and schedules may change. The A321XLR’s long range is what makes thin routes like Tenerife viable, since it lets a single-aisle jet cross the Atlantic with a premium cabin, a pattern airlines have been using to open smaller European markets.
