British Airways will launch a new seasonal service between London Gatwick and Colombo on October 23, flying three times a week throughout the 2026/27 winter season. The route is aimed squarely at British travelers chasing winter sun, and Sri Lanka Tourism is promoting it heavily to the UK market.
Passengers can choose World Traveller, World Traveller Plus or Club World, with return fares from £620 including taxes and carrier charges, subject to availability. The announcement did not say which aircraft will operate the flights, so cabin details will depend on what the airline schedules.
The numbers show why the UK matters to Sri Lanka. More than 170,000 UK visitors have traveled there so far in 2026, and the UK is the country’s second-largest source market, with a 10 percent share of all international arrivals. A direct service from Gatwick removes the connection that many British visitors have had to make until now.
Sri Lanka Tourism plans to push the message at World Travel Market in London from November 3 to 5. It will hold a press conference on Wednesday, November 4, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the ExCeL London ICC Maritime Suite, with Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe scheduled to speak. Because the route is seasonal, check the schedule before booking onward plans.
