Colombia’s Latin American Boom Has a Clear Winner: Brazil

Colorful colonial streets in a Colombian city

Colombia is drawing more of its Latin American neighbors, and Brazil is pulling ahead fastest. Migración Colombia figures for January through August 2026 show 545,152 visitors from Mexico, Brazil and Argentina combined, compared with the same months of 2025.

Mexico supplied the most travelers, 286,665, up 7.1 percent. Brazil sent 159,187, the biggest jump at 18 percent, while Argentina contributed 99,300, up 3.6 percent. Growth was broad, but Brazilian arrivals expanded at roughly two and a half times the pace of Mexico’s.

Spending patterns differ as well. Brazilian visitors averaged US$2,699 a trip over eight nights, Mexican visitors US$2,432 over six nights, and Argentines about US$1,512 over nine nights. In other words, the longest stays came from the lowest spenders, while Brazil combined a high budget with a healthy length of stay.

A traveler study by Arival, Phocuswright and Civitatis found that 96 percent of these leisure visitors see attractions, 87 percent take tours and 77 percent join activities. Nearly half traveled with children, and family rest was a leading motivation, which suggests demand for guided, family-friendly experiences rather than only beach or city breaks.
