A surprisingly large pile of British passports is about to run out. Figures that Wizz Air obtained from HM Passport Office through a Freedom of Information request show 367,179 adult passports expiring in the last three months of 2026: 135,006 in October, 125,405 in November and 106,768 in December.
The airline is using the numbers to nudge travelers. Yvonne Moynihan, managing director of Wizz Air UK, urged anyone heading abroad over the October half-term break to check their documents now rather than in the final days before departure, and said the same applies to people planning Christmas trips. Her advice: check the passport itself, check the entry requirements for your destination, and renew early if needed.
The report does not spell out validity rules, and they vary by country, so do not assume that a passport that has not yet expired will be accepted. Many destinations require several months of remaining validity on arrival, and some airlines will refuse boarding if the rule is not met. The destination’s official entry page is the authoritative source.
The same announcement carried route news: Wizz Air is adding year-round services from London Luton to Málaga, Granada and Asturias starting in late October, joining existing Spanish routes to Barcelona, Bilbao and Seville. For anyone about to book one of those new flights, the passport check is the cheapest part of the trip to get right.
