St. Louis Is Getting Its Iceland Nonstop Back After WOW Air’s Collapse

Icelandic landscape under a wide sky

Icelandair will begin flying between Reykjavik and St. Louis on May 14, 2027, four times a week through October 24. The route becomes the carrier’s 16th U.S. destination and restores a nonstop link between the Missouri city and Iceland that vanished when WOW Air went out of business in 2019.

St. Louis already has daily British Airways service to London and five weekly Lufthansa flights to Germany, so this is not the city’s first European connection. What it adds is a one-stop gateway to dozens of destinations across Europe through Reykjavik’s hub, along with the option of a stopover in Iceland.

Icelandair’s chief commercial officer, Tómas Ingason, called St. Louis the gateway to the West and said the flights would make it a gateway to Iceland and Europe in return. Local tourism officials pointed to Amadeus data showing hotel bookings in the St. Louis area up 12 percent over the past year, and hope the route helps the region win meetings and conventions.

Because the service is seasonal, travelers should plan around the May-to-October window. The airline has not said which aircraft will operate the route.
