Cunard Is About to Lose a Queen to a Sister Brand

Carnival Corporation is shuffling ships inside its British and American brands, and the headline move involves one of the best-known names at sea. Cunard’s Queen Anne will leave the line after her 2028-29 world cruise and join P&O Cruises in 2029, where she will be reimagined and renamed before entering P&O service in May 2029.

Before she goes, Queen Anne still has a full Cunard calendar. She will take part in the Four Queens celebration in Liverpool in May 2028 and sail a final World Voyage as a Cunard ship in January 2029. P&O has not yet revealed her new name.

The second half of the swap involves P&O’s Arcadia. She will end a farewell season on August 21, 2029, and then transfer to Holland America Line, another Carnival brand. Carnival UK, P&O Cruises and Cunard president Paul Ludlow described the moves as reflecting a careful, long-term view of the portfolio.

The company says Queen Anne’s modern design suits P&O’s holiday-focused product, while Cunard ends up with a more unified fleet built around Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth. Cunard says its commitment to the brand is unchanged, and Queen Mary 2 is due a major upgrade the following year.
