The United Arab Emirates now has a national passenger railway. Etihad Rail’s passenger service opened on September 30, linking Abu Dhabi with Dubai’s Al Yalayis Station in 64 minutes, a trip that by road is usually a longer, traffic-dependent drive.
The line runs 10 daily journeys, and trains reach speeds of 200 kilometers per hour. That frequency gives travelers a reasonable chance of simply turning up and catching the next departure rather than planning around a single timetable slot, though schedules can change as the network matures.
Connections matter as much as speed. A 400-meter pedestrian bridge links Al Yalayis Station to the Dubai Metro Red Line, so passengers can move from the intercity train into the city’s metro system without needing a taxi or rideshare for the final stretch.
The opening is one of several transport and hospitality developments flagged in a recent corporate-travel roundup, which also noted new hotel investments across Australia and Europe and a rise in business-travel optimism. For visitors planning a Gulf trip, the train adds a new way to pair the two emirates in a single itinerary.
