Alaska Airlines Is Pointing Its Widebodies at Osaka and Tahiti

Alaska Airlines has added two long-haul routes from Seattle for 2027, both flown with Airbus A330-200 widebodies. Seattle to Osaka Kansai begins May 14, 2027, four times weekly. Seattle to Tahiti starts June 11, 2027, three times weekly under the Alaska and Hawaiian banner. The announcements, posted October 22 in Aviation Week’s weekly network roundup, extend the airline’s reach across the Pacific.

Osaka is a natural addition because Japan remains one of the few major overseas markets sending more visitors to the United States this year, according to government figures. For West Coast travelers, a nonstop to Kansai opens a gateway to Kyoto, Nara and Kobe without a connection through Tokyo. Flights to Osaka run four times a week, so check which days work before planning a short trip.

Tahiti is the more leisure-focused move. The Seattle service uses the A330-200 at three weekly frequencies and ties into the Hawaiian network that Alaska now operates as a combined group. Because it launches in early June, it lands right at the start of the Northern Hemisphere summer, when demand for French Polynesia from the West Coast typically picks up.

Both routes are more than six months away, which means schedules, fares and award availability are not yet fully visible. Travelers wanting a deal should watch for the opening of sales and compare both cash fares and mileage prices, since new routes often launch with introductory promotions. Aviation Week noted other transpacific and transatlantic announcements from United, Delta and Air Canada in the same week.
