Hilton Will Now Let Points Pay the Hotel Bill at Checkout

Hilton has introduced Pay with Points, a feature that lets Hilton Honors members apply loyalty points to eligible charges on their hotel bill. The process happens entirely in the Hilton Honors app during Digital Check Out: guests review their folio, pick from available redemption options and apply points, with no help from the front desk. It is a different use for points than booking a free night.

Eligibility is limited to Silver, Gold, Diamond and Diamond Reserve members. The feature launched at 150 participating hotels in the United States, and availability and redemption options may vary by property. Hilton says it expects to reach more than 800 hotels by the end of 2026, followed by a full rollout to more than 6,000 participating properties in the United States and Canada in early 2027.

The company points to survey research: 70 percent of members surveyed are interested in using points on property, and about half said the option could make them more likely to stay or book with Hilton. Missing from the announcement is any redemption rate or point value, which is the detail that will decide whether the feature is a smart way to burn small balances or a poor trade.

That gap matters. Loyalty experts often warn that on-property redemptions can offer a lower value per point than award nights, so members should compare the offered rate against what the same points would buy on a free-night booking. If the rate turns out to be generous at your hotel, the feature could be handy for covering resort fees, parking or dining without a separate card swipe.
