Air Canada and United Airlines have agreed to renew and expand their transborder joint business agreement and have announced six new Canada to US routes for summer 2027. The renewed agreement is subject to regulatory approval, and an application has been submitted to Transport Canada. The partners made the announcement on October 16, and the new flights are aimed at spreading the partnership beyond the big-hub routes it has long relied on.
Air Canada’s additions are Toronto to Louisville, flying up to daily from April 28 to October 31, 2027, and daily from May; Montréal to Indianapolis, daily from June 1 to September 30; and Edmonton to Newark, four times weekly from June 1 to October 17. The airline is also putting an Airbus A220 on its Edmonton to San Francisco route, which increases capacity there.
United’s side includes seasonal Newark to St. John’s, which the announcement describes as the first Newark link to St. John’s in more than a decade, plus new Denver to Ottawa and Denver to Québec City service. United is also adding frequency on Washington Dulles to Québec City and increasing daily seats on Denver to Winnipeg by 65 percent.
The partnership dates to 2022 and, according to Air Canada, has enabled 20 new routes, more than 4.3 million joint passengers and over 1,200 connecting itineraries across ten Canadian gateways. The two Star Alliance members have worked together since 1996. For travellers, the practical upside is more nonstop and connecting choices next summer, with the renewal itself still awaiting regulatory approval.
