Cunard Is Bringing Back a Liverpool Crossing Nobody Has Sailed in Years

A large cruise ship sailing on calm water

Cunard is reviving a Liverpool departure on a transatlantic crossing. Queen Mary 2 will sail a 21-night roundtrip from New York that marks the ship’s 500th transatlantic crossing, departing New York on April 20, 2029. Passengers can also join in Hamburg, Southampton or Liverpool, with the Liverpool embarkation scheduled for May 4, according to reporting from The Independent cited by TravelHost.

The Liverpool detail is the headline. Cunard says passengers have not departed Liverpool on a transatlantic crossing since 2015, while TTG reports it will be the first direct transatlantic cruise from Liverpool since 1967. The 2015 sailing stopped in Halifax and Boston. Cunard President Paul Ludlow called the crossing a major moment in the line’s modern history.

The voyage is part of a larger release. Cunard announced 93 voyages covering October 2028 through May 2029, and the 500th-crossing sailing is only one of them. The line is giving its loyalty members first pick: World Club members get early access on November 3, 2026, and general bookings open the next day, November 4.

Cruises this far out reward early planners, since cabins in premium categories on flagship sailings tend to go first. The long lead time also means there is little risk in watching the booking window and comparing which embarkation port makes most sense. Travelers wanting the Liverpool departure should note that it is timed two weeks into the voyage, so the Liverpool leg is a distinct option.
