Emirates Is Quietly Parking Its Biggest Jet on Three Routes This Winter

Emirates’ winter schedule, which began on October 25, 2026, takes its flagship Airbus A380 off three routes. Aviation A2Z reports that Dubai to Jeddah will use a Boeing 777-300ER for the winter, with the A380 scheduled to return on March 28, 2027. The same swap applies to Dubai to Washington Dulles. The site estimates the Jeddah change cuts about 22 percent of round-trip seats, with first class down 63 percent, business class 48 percent and economy 16 percent.

The Washington story has a backstory. The article says the A380 did not serve the route from March to July 2026 and attributes that to the ongoing war in Iran, though it gives no reason for the Jeddah or Medina changes. The planned return date of March 28 is subject to change, so travelers who have booked an A380 experience on these routes should check their reservation, particularly if the upper-deck seat was a reason for choosing Emirates.

Medina is a different case. No A380 is scheduled there this winter, but Emirates will keep serving it, and Aviation A2Z notes that flydubai and Saudia also operate the route, for up to five daily flights combined. In practice, that leaves passengers with more frequencies and carriers, if fewer of the very largest seats, which may suit travelers who care about timing more than the type of aircraft.

It is not a retreat everywhere. A separate report from October 15 says Emirates will add a second daily A380 on Dubai to Kuala Lumpur and Zurich from December 1, 2026, and fly both daily Shanghai flights with the A380 from October 25 to November 30. Airlines routinely move their largest aircraft to where demand is strongest, and Emirates appears to be doing just that this season.
