Hilton has agreed a multi-year development deal with Scandic Hotels Group, the largest hotel company in the Nordic region, to add hotels in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The new properties will fly Hilton’s brands while Scandic, based in Stockholm, handles the day-to-day operation.
The first project is a new-build Hilton hotel next to Copenhagen Airport, scheduled to open in 2029 with 284 rooms. Scandic will run it under a franchise agreement with Hilton. The two companies already know each other: Scandic has franchised and operated Hilton hotels in Helsinki for years, which is why both sides describe the new deal as an extension rather than a leap.
Scandic chief executive Jens Mathiesen said the arrangement combines a global brand with Scandic’s operating platform, and Hilton chief executive Christopher Nassetta called it a significant milestone that creates a clear pathway across the four countries. Scandic has more than 300 hotels in operation and under development, so it brings scale in markets where Hilton’s footprint has been thinner.
For travelers, the practical change is loyalty. The companies say the agreement will bring new benefits to members of both Hilton’s and Scandic’s programs, though they did not detail what those perks will be. Expect more announcements as specific sites in Stockholm, Oslo and Helsinki are named.
