Air Canada Is Quietly Redrawing Its Map of America

Air Canada has trimmed its U.S. network for 2027. Toronto Pearson to Charleston, which had been expected to return in April 2027, is gone, along with Vancouver to Nashville, Vancouver to Raleigh-Durham and Montreal to Seattle, all of which had been slated to come back for summer 2027. Toronto Billy Bishop to Boston is scheduled to end on December 1, 2026. The Charleston flight was the airline’s only nonstop link between Canada and South Carolina.

At the same time the airline is adding service elsewhere. Toronto Pearson to Louisville starts April 28, 2027, rising to daily during the season. Montreal to Indianapolis will run daily from June 1 to September 30, and Edmonton to Newark starts June 1 with four weekly flights until October 17. Air Canada also plans larger Airbus A220 aircraft on Edmonton to San Francisco.

The airline points to commercial conditions and travel demand. Statistics Canada figures show about 1.89 million Canadian return trips from the United States in September 2026, up 6.8 percent from a year earlier. Return trips by air rose 11.6 percent but remain 18.7 percent below September 2024, a gap that reports link to political tensions, trade disputes and tariffs.

Air Canada also plans to renew and expand its joint business agreement with United Airlines, subject to regulatory approval; the partnership currently supports more than 1,200 connecting itineraries. For travelers, the lesson is to check whether a favorite Canada-U.S. nonstop is still on the 2027 schedule before booking, and to expect connections on some city pairs that used to be direct.
