Frequent flyers who book with miles had two pieces of unwelcome news in this week’s AwardWallet roundup. The first is a price rise for Seats.aero, the popular award-availability search tool. From November 9, the Pro plan moves to $12.99 a month, up from $9.99, or $109.99 a year, up from $99.99.
There is a small window to avoid the increase. Anyone who signs up before November 9 keeps the $99.99 annual price for the life of their account, which makes the next few days the cheapest moment to lock in a yearly plan for those who already rely on the tool.
The second change affects people flying to Japan on points. ANA has stopped allowing standby on award tickets issued by Star Alliance partners, such as United MileagePlus, according to a report from Loyalty Lobby on October 27. Standby is still possible on award tickets issued by ANA itself.
In practice, a traveler holding a partner-booked award who hoped to move onto an earlier flight on ANA can no longer count on that option. Anyone planning an ANA itinerary with partner miles should check which airline issued the ticket and build in the flexibility they need before booking.
